Ver 2 - Regional spatial variation.

  1. NOAA puts the number of stations required at over 200, to resolve @ .1C per decade. The spatial distribution was not uniform, with the southeast and northwest ( I recall) requiring more than 1 per cell.

    They took all the stations, and then decimated. used a 2.75* 3 grid I think
    I have the paper somewhere, probably off topic...

    I need to understand the spherical harmonics as least conceptually.
